Grade Taught/Focus: I am a 7th grade teacher at TBC on both Wednesdays and Sundays. The B’nai Mitzvah year is a big one for both our students and their families. We will prepare for the B’nai Mitzvah by learning and reviewing prayers and blessings, understanding the meaning of prayers, and familiarizing students with the Torah Service. We will also use the excitement and commitment of B’nai Mitzvah study to not only reach that specific goal, but to accomplish broader goals concerning Jewish identity, values, responsibilities, customs, and history.

Teaching Background: I first started teaching at TBC in 2005 and have taught confirmation classes, 5th and 7th grades. My work at TBC inspired me to complete the coursework for teacher certification at WestConn. I have also been involved with nature education and have been known to answer to “Ranger Ray”.

Reason I became a TBC Teacher: I think Judaism rocks and so do kids. It is a fun challenge to help students make Judaism relevant in their lives and it is a blessing to be a part of that growth.

Teaching Notes: I like to get my students to think, laugh, and move in a respectful, safe environment. Teaching at TBC is a sacred calling for me. It is partially about students developing confidence and pride as they work toward their B’nai Mitzvot. It is equally about students establishing a personal relationship with God, connecting to each other, developing shared values, and becoming the next generation of mensches.
