NAME:  Kayla Cohen

HOME TOWN:  Wilton, CT

B’NAI MITZVAH DATE:  March 21, 2015

TORAH PORTION:  Parshat Vayikra

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:  For my Mitzvah project, I am collecting used sports equipment for Let's Play It Forward in Westchester County, New York.  Let's Play it Forward is a not-for-profit 501(c) (3) organization started by a group of teens. They collect and donate used sports equipment to children and organizations in need, and to date they have collected over 20,500 pieces of gently used sports equipment. Their mission is to help charitable youth organizations and individuals in need obtain the gear necessary to play sport they love. Their donations have benefited the CT/NY/NJ tri-state area, but also as far away as Africa!

For as long as I can remember, I have always played a sport.  Many I tried for a season or class, and others I have stayed with for years.  I have been fortunate to have the equipment/protection I needed for every sport I played – shoes, rackets, helmets, goggles, etc… and a lot of it is still in my house, unused.  I was so happy to find Let’s Play It Forward, so I could donate my used equipment and collect from others, to help give another child a chance to try or play sports

HELP NEEDED:  I would like to ask others to consider donating their gently used sport equipment.   Not only would you be recycling your used equipment, but you would help provide opportunities for kids to play sports!  I have a collection bin located in the entry hallway of Temple B’nai Chaim.

Thank you!
